TRAVELODGE, GATE HOUSE, WELWYN GARDEN CITY

We have just handed over an office conversion at Welwyn Garden City to Travelodge, completed in partnership with Willmott Dixon Interiors. In total the works provide 79 new hotel bed rooms, circa 3,173 sqm hotel floorspace and 2,972 sqm office floorspace with no change to ground floor retail use.

The Site falls within the Welwyn Garden City conservation area, and heritage was a key consideration in the project. The existing building, Gate House, was a four storey mixed-use retail and office building. The building was built in the early 1960s and is one of a number of buildings in the Town Centre designed in a style which seeks to replicate the original Garden City architecture. It is utilitarian in its form, with red brick as the primary material.
